One of the secretaries made some cakes for the staff room this morning. She'd left a note next to them saying "Enjoy". We did. Later, when she had come in for a cup of coffee herself, she was complimented on her cake making prowess, and for her use of local free range eggs. "You can definitely taste the difference."
Someone asked if there was a special occasion she was marking.
"It would have been A***'s birthday," was her reply. I for one had no idea who A*** was and yet didn't feel able to ask her to elaborate. Neither did anybody else. And yet I think she wanted to be asked.
There's always a decision to be made.
